Purple has historically been considered the color of royalty. This is because of complex reasons involving molluscs but we don't really need to get into that, because it looks awesome. This design is a rich, vibrant purple with just enough contrast to stand out against the black without feeling too bright or not purpley enough. The fact that we have never seen actual grapes this color is irrelevant.
